As part of our comprehensive turn-key PCB assembly services, H.K. C-Alley provides PCB Functional Testing (FCT). This testing is typically carried out after the circuit boards have been assembled and AOI (Automated Optical Inspection) and visual inspections have been completed. Conducting functional testing at the earliest possible stage allows us to identify and rectify component failures, manufacturing errors, or potential design flaws early on in the process. This enables us to perform failure analysis promptly and deliver exceptional products to our customers and their clients within a short timeframe. The main purpose of functional testing is to prevent manufacturing issues such as circuit shorts, opens, missing components, or incorrect part placement.
PCB functional testing involves the use of a computer connected to test points or test-probe points to conduct FCT. By running specialized software or firmware, we can determine whether the PCBs meet specific requirements and are deemed acceptable.
The execution of PCB functional testing is facilitated through the use of firmware and testing equipment, including digital multimeters, input/output PCBs, and communication ports. Our assembly line workers, equipped with testing software that interfaces with external equipment for the device under test (DUT) monitoring, perform automated computer-based functional testing (FCT).

Our testing engineers will review your requirements, such as the scope and instructions for testing, and if necessary, design the test jig. They will also set up the necessary instruments and prepare the test report form and testing workflow.
At C-Alley PCBs, we have a range of equipment available, including adjustable DC power supplies, a 200MHz digital oscilloscope, a signal generator, an LCR multimeter, and a universal programmer, which covers a majority of embedded system testing needs. The test results can be recorded either manually or collected using computerized methods. In the event that a board fails the testing, a troubleshooting program will be initiated to identify the root cause of the failure. Our process engineer will issue a Design For Assembly (DFA) form, and our quality engineer will create an 8D quality assurance report. The DFA report will be shared with the customer as a reference for future design improvements, serving as a valuable guideline for quality enhancement.
